About
Collecting is half the fun of creating!
Finger Lakes pottery and beach glass finds.
Welcome & thanks for checking out my website! My name is Jeanne and I’m the Finger Lakes artist behind Lakewood Studio. My educational background is in both art and business. I host artwork classes at Oasis Learning Center. I’ve been a featured artist in "Your Art Matters" magazine, “Local Geneva” magazine, and have had an artwork spotlight in "The Good Life-CNY” magazine. I'm a member of United Artspace, the CNY Art Guild, and I participate in many art shows throughout Central New York. And most fun of all - I am a beachcomber!
Found.
I create artwork inspired by the beautiful scenery of the Finger Lakes Region of New York. Beach glass, stones, pottery, driftwood and shells are found and gathered by me from the shores of these lakes – all lovingly picked and then carefully washed. I grew up on a lake playing along the shoreline, making “stone soup”, and collecting every interesting thing that washed ashore. Little did I know this love for finding treasures would turn into something more than a hobby.
Collected.
After years of beachcombing, I knew I had to use this collection of treasures in my artwork. Each little jewel is naturally worn and smooth, having been tumbled by the waters. Many pieces of glass and pottery still show bits of lettering or patterns giving a tiny hint of their origins, yet still remain a mystery. Interestingly shaped stones and driftwood all have their own special story. I love knowing so much of what I collect has a history.
Handcrafted.
I paint and create scenes that capture the quiet beauty of the lakeside and more. Using my found beauties in my artwork is a way for me to share my love of the water. I select pieces from my collection and put them together in just the right way to bring out their story, turning bits of history into art. The up-cycled elements of my handcrafted pieces make them truly one of a kind.
Loved.
I very much miss living on a lake but being at the water is still my happy place, and how I stay connected to those memories. I enjoy creating from its inspiration and sharing that art with others. I’ve been told my artwork makes people happy and warms their hearts; being able to do that is pure love.
